Snails Species in Nigeria and West Africa


Different breeds of snail are reared in West Africa. The most common breeds of snails predominate includes:


Archachatina marginata 
Achatina achatina
Achatina fulica
Limicolaria  Spp
Crossess

Other species of edible land snails are: 



Helix aspersa (Small grey snail), 
Helix pomatia (Apple snail) and  
Helix aperta

These are European breed of snails, commonly found in France, Italy, California etc.

Types of Land Snails

The Giant African land snail is a large species native of East Africa, but it has been widely distributed to other parts of the world.

Snails are quite plentiful in the world so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn they are found in very diverse habitats.

The anatomy of a snail is very different from many other animals in  the world. Some people find them to be fascinating while others thing they are ugly.
